Comic Con: Watchmen, McG, and Groveling Fanboy Horror Sycophants

Today was day 2 of the New York Comic Con.  There was only one major movie panel this year since the Con fell a little too far from summer this time around.  First up was Watchmen.  Dave Gibbons gave an introduction then showed the first 18 minutes of the film, plus one scene from later in the movie.

The first scene is the Comedian’s murder, and it’s just how you’d think it would be from the trailer, except that it’s a little too 300-y and scored with Nat King Cole’s “Unforgetable.”  The real stunner is the opening credits sequence.  First off, it’s really long.  We go from the Minutemen in the 30′s to the Watchmen (yes, they’re called that) in the 80′s and everything in between, with cameos from David Bowie, JFK and more.  It’s shot in a zooming slow mo/faux- still photography style that really jumps off the screen.  Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’” works perfectly.  Almost teared up…almost.

UPDATE!

So I posted this yesterday, about how I have a PS3 and it’s pretty powerful etc, etc.  Little did I know that around the time I posted it I didn’t in fact own a PS3 anymore.  In fact, it was being lifted from my apartment along with my Wii (which I won’t miss), my roommate’s computer (which she will miss), all my change, and my laundry bag to carry it all (the $2.99 replacement I just got sucks).

So, was the thief an avid reader of this blog?  Did he see that I owned a PS3 and immediately decided to go swipe it?  If that’s the case I have a box of iPhones down at the 90th Precinct.  Look for the detective that resembles Kima from The Wire.

Meme Me

So glad YouTube wasn’t around when I was having night terrors as a kid, slamming my face into mattresses, screaming at my parents, crying my eyes out. One time I even thought I saw Jesus looking at me through the window next to the front door. My immediate reaction: scream and run away.  I was smart even in an altered state.

Super Bowl of Wings

Being from Pittsburgh, Sunday is a big day for me obviously.  It’s hard for me to really show off my hometown spirit for a couple reasons:

1.  My hometown spirit is usually just shown through trivia about movies shot in the area

2.  If I had more spirit I may not have bolted at the first chance

3.  I don’t own any Steelers clothing and/or a Terrible Towel (or a Terrible ShamWow)

Even our President, born on the other side of the world as Pittsburgh, might be showing more Steelers support than I am.
